FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK -  August 2008 El Sol Studios Presents: Strange Worship: New works by Veronica Ceci.   Veronica's recent focus on themes of religious adoration is inspired by both a residency in Venice as well as the passing of John Paul II. Studies into the more pagan aspects of traditional Catholicism highlight how the occurrence of morbidity is often correlated to enlightenment. The juxtaposition of earthly pain and divine reward is illustrated through use of buoyant colors to depict grisly subjects. FIRST FRIDAY ART WALK -  NOVEMBER El Sol Studios Presents: "Ofrenda Para los Queridos" Dia de los Muertos 7th Annual Community Altar & Exhibit This will be our biggest Dia de los Muertos celebration ever!  In exhibit will be a huge collaborative community altar and art exhibit displaying this wonderful cultural Mexican celebration.  Group show honoring this holiday by local artists (TBA).  Join us as we await the procession as they stop and read "calaveras" for us and our guests. DIY FACTORY The DIY (Do It Yourself) Factory is an annual celebration of creativity that will bring together a diverse group of cutting edge independent craftsters, artisans, fashion designers, and musicians to showcase their talents to the general public in a market type setting. It will give many people their first opportunity at being a vendor and will allow those that are "old hands" at selling their goods a fresh and new type of market to connect to the community. ART IN THE HOOD - FALL ART WALK This year Art in the hood took a slight detour.  The original concept has changed, but it's purpose still remains the same : ART, ART AND MORE ART...... First Friday Art Walk JULY El Sol Studios Presents for Contemporary Art Month:  "Colloidal" After a ten-year absence from the Texas art scene artists Lora Alaniz and Jennifer Beth Guerin return for San Antonio's Contemporary Art Month 2007 (CAM.) This July they will work collaboratively, addressing the bed as a layered site of human interaction, transforming material and space at El Sol Studios. With their mixed-media installations and video work they physically unravel the threads of the mattress and combine them with delicately handled and emotionally charged video, imbedded within the deconstructed fibers. Their work investigates relationships, intimacy, security, protection and the spaces in between in an effort to understand one's self and connect with others.
